Important Vitamins for Celiac Disease Patient with Gluten-Free Diet

vitamins for celiac disease must be a big concern which should be considered carefully for people who have celiac disease. In fact, people with celiac disease have to deal with the damaged digestive tract.

It means that the nutrient absorption will be very poor. People with celiac disease usually have to take a gluten-free diet. They have to be very careful with their vitamin intake because a gluten-free diet can make them prone to vitamin deficiency.

In this circumstance, there are some important vitamins intakes which must be ensured.

Vitamin B6

First of all, it is important to make sure that they get enough vitamin B6 because it is useful for helping the body fight against infection. It is also beneficial for maintaining the normal function of the nerve and carrying oxygen throughout the body.

The blood sugar can also be kept within the normal limit with the help of vitamin B6. However, many people who have celiac disease and follow the gluten-free diet can also suffer from low vitamin B6.

There is no need to worry because vitamin B6 intake can be boosted by eating a lot of healthy foods such as chickpeas, banana, turkey, chicken breast, salmon, and tuna.

Folate

The next important vitamin which must be paid attention properly is folate or folic acid. In fact, it is also a type of vitamin B. Folate might be familiar for preventing defects of birth. However, people have to make sure that get enough folate in their body because it is necessary to make new cells.

People usually can get enough folate from gluten-containing foods because they are fortified with folate.

That is why when people take gluten-free foods, they need to pay bigger attention to the intake of folate because it is one of the important vitamins for celiac disease.

For boosting the folate intake, they have to take more greens such as Brussels sprouts, broccoli, green peas, asparagus, and spinach. Peanuts and black-eyed peas can also be a great source of folate.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D will be produced by the skin as a response of contact with the sunlight. However, vitamin D can also be found in cereal products and fortified dairy products.

That is why people who do not eat gluten might find it difficult to fulfill their vitamin D need.

It is unfortunate that people will not find the foods which naturally contain vitamin D although they can consider cold water fish such as sockeys salmon and swordfish as a great source of vitamin D. An egg yolk can also fulfill a small amount of daily vitamin D need.

It is suggested for people looking for the fortified dairy products and fortified orange juice to get more intake of vitamin D.

It means that they have to read the label first to make sure that the foods and drinks come with the essential vitamins for people who have celiac disease.

People should also pay attention to their calcium intake besides the important vitamins for celiac disease.
